Course Content

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to test, commission and maintain backflow prevention devices in water services. 

In some jurisdictions, this unit of competency may form part of accreditation, licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. 

Course Requirements

Participants are required to have the following: 

Bring Materials: 

  • Pen/pencils
  • Photo ID

Clothing:

Wear normal work clothes including:

  • covered footwear (steel capped boots preferred, no sneakers)
  • long sleeve shirt
  • long pants or overalls

Course Outcomes

This course contains the following learning content: 

  • Identify testing, commissioning and maintenance requirements
  • Prepare for work
  • Commission and maintain devices
  • Clean up

A Statement of Attainment for the unit CPCPWT4022 Commission and maintain backflow prevention devices will be issued to the participant after successful completion of the course by PEER Education Employment & Training Pty Ltd (45744).

Entry Requirements

The participant needs to provide evidence that the following prerequisites have been completed on attendance at the course: 

  • CPCPCM2043 Carry out WHS requirements
  • CPCPWT3027 Install backflow prevention devices

Suitable evidence includes:

  • Statement of Attainment that includes the relevant units
  • USI transcript that includes the relevant units
  • CPC32413 Certificate III In Plumbing 
  • CPC32420 Certificate III in Plumbing

The participant needs to read (prior to attending the course) 

  • National Construction Code - Cross connection control Handbook

Delivery Method

This course contains both theory and practical learning activities.

CITB is a whole-of-industry led organisation that provides support to attract, train and retain South Australian building and construction workers by providing leadership in training and skills development. The CITB provides access to subsidised training for apprentices, their employers and workers in the industry.

SHORT COURSE TRAINING

The objective of CITB’s Short Course Training program is to raise the level of skill in the construction industry workforce by engaging Eligible Persons in training and skill development activities. CITB facilitates training opportunities and endeavours to ensure that CITB funded training meets both quality standards and industry requirements.

Each financial year, Eligible Persons with an approved CITB number can obtain up to $3,000 of training subsidies off any CITB endorsed short course, with a CITB endorsed training provider.
