Course Description

To provide participants with the skills and knowledge to be able to test, commission and maintain backflow prevention devices in water services.

Course Content

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to test, commission and maintain backflow prevention devices in water services. It covers preparation for work, identification of testing and commissioning requirements, physical testing and commissioning of devices, maintenance of devices and completion of work finalisation processes.

Course Requirements

Participants are required to have the following:

Materials - Pens/pencils, Photo ID

Clothing – Wear long sleeve shirt, long pants or overalls and covered footwear (steel capped boots preferred)

Course Outcomes

On completion of this course, the participant will be able to competently:

  • Identify testing and commissioning requirements
  • Test and commission device
  • Maintain device


A Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency CPCPWT4022 - Commission and Maintain Backflow Prevention Devices will be issued to the participant after successful completion.


Entry Requirements

Hold a current relevant plumbing workers registration or be a current 4th Year Plumbing Apprentice.
